Information Management
Lack of reliable information on constraints and opportunities to back up the development of a regional harmonized policy, legislation, and advocacy with international institutions was identified as major constraint affecting the livestock sector in the SADC region. PRINT livestock project is working towards alleviating this problem and enable stakeholders of the sector, both private and public, access to livestock information to contribute to the definition of sector policies, and interventions.
One of the major expected results of the PRINT Livestock project is to enable SADC Secretariat and Member States generate reliable, standardized and essential information on animal health, animal production and livestock trade and marketing. This will be achieved through the establishment of Livestock Information Management System (LIMS) to facilitate networking and better flow of information.
Livestock Information Management System (LIMS)
LIMS is a set of information management tools, procedures and methods the PRINT Project intend to establish for SADC Secretariat and Member States for the collection, collation and analysis of livestock related data and dissemination of information. Technical and socio-economic data of animal health, animal production and livestock trade and marketing are gathered and information generated from these will serve decision makers and planners for drafting sectorial policies and strategies, and risk analysis/management, among others.
