  Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR)  
 

CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE

The FANR Directorate mandate comprises the following:
  • Development, promotion and harmonization of agricultural policies and the promotion of gender sensitive development strategies and programmes;
  • Ensuring sustainable food security policies and programmes;
  • Development, promotion and harmonization in biodiversity, phytosanitary, sanitary, crop and animal husbandry policies;
  • Development of measures to increase agricultural output and the development of agro-based industries;
  • Development, promotion and harmonization of policies and programmes aimed at effective and sustainable utilization of natural resources such as water, wildlife, fisheries, forestry, etc.;
  • Development and harmonization of sound environmental management policies; and
  • Promotion of trade in agricultural products.
In line with RISDP, the major intervention areas for FANR Directorate is Sustainable Food Security, with main focus on the following areas:
i. Ensuring Food Availability;
ii. Ensuring Food Access;
iii. Improving Safety and Nutritional value of food;
iv. Ensuring Disaster Preparedness for Food Security;
v. Ensure Equitable and Sustainable use of the Environment and Natural Resources; and
vi. Strengthening Institutional Framework and Capacity Building.

These areas are being coordinated through the following Programmes
