  • Through its information products (SADC Seed Updates and SADC Seed News Magazine), the Network has better informed regional seed stakeholders about seed situation in SADC and thus able to plan ahead of the season.
  • Information products from the Seed Security Network

  • Through database training, Member States have been assisted in capacity building of personnel involved in seeds through training in seeds and data base for seed security. In addition, Member States have been issued with a computer each to facilitate collection of seed information at national level.
  • Left: Database Training for seed technicians responsible for collecting seed information at national level

Right: Handing over of computers to SADC Member States, received by Mrs. P. Strauss, SSSN Steering Committee Member and Seed Focal Point for South Africa on behalf of other Member States at a Database Training Workshop for seed technicians in Pretoria, South Africa

  • Training in community based seed production and enterprenueship.

CHALLENGES

In concluding technical proposals for harmonization of seed regulations, the challenge is in the taking of this process to policy levels, which will require better strategies, tactics and preparedness. Sustainability of the Network beyond donor support will continue to be a challenge that will require taking some opportunities that the Network has and continues to create.
