To achieve its objectives and fulfill its mission, the SADC Seed Centre has adopted five strategic functions which build on the achievements of the SSSN project.

These are:

1. Quality assurance for regional variety release, certification and phytosanitary regulations
2. Coordination and quality assurance of seed-related capacity development
3. Development of an effective information exchange platform for seed
4. Coordination of seed programs in SADC region
5. Resource mobilization

Overall benefits

The overall benefits will be:

  • Increased investment in the seed sector

  • increased seed production

  • access to more varieties

  • Increased market competition

  • National Seed Authorities (NSAs)

  • National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs)

  • National, Regional and International Agricultural Research Organizations
