The RRSU offers satellite image products with an operational grid size of 0.1 degrees (approximately 11 km.) in the geographic projection. During the crop growing season, from October to April, these data are processed into a number of information products, in digital and hardcopy format, on rainfall occurrence and vegetation development. Other satellite

Bulletins and Information Sheets are produced to inform a wide range of users about the progress of the growing season, including climate and crop production forecasts. This information is also available on this web-site.

In addition to a database of satellite images for southern Africa, the RRSU keeps has vector datasets for SADC countries, which include information on national and sub-national administrative boundaries, elevation, infra-structure, hydrology, major growing areas, forests, protected areas and cultural sites. Training and technical backstopping is provided in different formats such as in-service training, or training through regional and national workshops and secondment of experts. The RRSU has the technical facilities to host small groups of trainees.
