KEY OUTPUTS

Output 1

Regional Land and Water Management professional skills improved:

R & D teams are strengthened in L & WM issues and are more proficient in relevant R & D approaches, skills and research methods. An important outcome expected will be improved knowledge of personnel as a result of increased quality and quantity of L & WM related training offered regionally.

Activities:

  1. Develop, offer regional short courses relevant to L & WM R & D;
  2. Develop, offer regional higher education and training programmes appropriate for in-service upgrading of personnel and for training prospective researchers;
  3. Facilitate increased and more effective attendance by researchers at appropriate in-service short courses or higher education and training programmes relevant to L & WM;
  4. Improve the proficiency of researchers in sourcing and managing research funds

Output 2

Regional Land and Water Management R & D info exchange network established:

Increased exchange of relevant information among L & WM stakeholders in the region via info networks suing various media. This will improve the ability of L & WM personnel to communicate with one another and exchange and disseminate information. It will develop and maintain an info exchange network based on electronic and more conventional means of communication, the storage and access to data and personal contact and experience.

Activities:

  1. Enhance the regional capacity for electronic L & WM related communications;
  2. Improve conventional means of communication among L & WM stakeholders (including publication in SADC newsletters and designated journals);
  3. Encourage regularly used and updated L&WM computerized dBase;
  4. Ensure more participation by relevant personnel in the region in LRWM-oriented regional scientific symposia and exchange visits

Output 3

Regional Land and Water Management Research and Development co-ordination network effectively established

Effective establishment of regional co-ordination of mutual R&D interests and programmes. An important outcome will be co-ordination of and support for mutual L&WM research interests, activities and programmes of benefit to a number of countries in the region.

Activities:

  1. Establish a functional regional L&WM research and development co-ordination network for research managers;
  2. Regularly set and review of regional priorities for R&D topics and collaborative programmes relevant to L & WM;
  3. Promote closer participatory uptake of improved technologies and improved linkages between research and actual practice in the field
