Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR)

Implementation And Coordination Of Agricultural Research And Training (ICART)

One of the major components of the ICART project is the funding of Research and Training activities in the SADC Member States. The project launched the Competitive Regional Agricultural Research Fund (CRARF) and the Regional Training Programme (RTP).

The CRARF funds research activities of consortia of research institutions, which are both regional and international. However, all research activities are carried out in the SADC Member States. The programmes run for three years.

The RTP funds regional universities to set up and run a Masters Programme in Agriculture, for citizens of the SADC region. The host University has to have a majority of students from other SADC Member States than local students in the funded programme. The RTP grant enables the institutions to set up their Masters programme in the first year and run the course over the next two years. In addition, the University may provide short courses for professionals, based on the contents developed for the Masters Programme.

An overview of the CRARF and the RTP awarding process and short descriptions of the grants awared can be viewed as a pdf file or as a Powerpoint Show. The grants are also listed in the tables below.
