Overall objectives
  1. Improved food availability and security through increased productivity and profitability of cereal production by small scale farmers.
  2. National and regional systems of innovation driving agricultural development
 
Specific objective
Community based armyworm forecasting for reduced cereal losses established in Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
 
Expected results
  1. Community based armyworm forecasting successfully piloted in MalawiZimbabwe and lessons learned.
  2. Community based armyworm forecasting scaled up and out in Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe
  3. Methodology refined and benefits documented
  4. Capacity for innovative regional migrant pest research built

  • Baseline socioeconomic survey
  • Forecaster training workshop
  • Training of trainers, including Private sector/NGO training
  • Season-long forecasting
  • Master trainers implement CBAF
  • Mid-season monitoring; end-of-season evaluation
  • Preparation of policy briefs and publicity materials
  • National policy makers’ seminar
  • Economic analysis of large scale CBAF implementation
  • Project management training; Training in participatory methods; Outcome mapping
  • Exchange visits
  • Annual learning and planning workshops
  • Develop and implement a communication and knowledge management strategy
