Overall Objectives
  • Improve sustainable crop production technologies and systems for management of natural resources to increase agricultural production and productivity.
  • Empower smallholder Farmer Associations and develop an integrated value chain for selected high value crops
Specific Objective
  • To re-vitalize the capacity of the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) in Angola and DRC to carry out market -led research to address the needs of smallholder farmers.
Major Activities
  • Collection and screening of local germplasm
    • (maize ,Irish potato, phaseolus beans, groundnut & other field crops)
  • Field trial evaluation of improved germplasm from regional initiatives     
    • maize, Irish potato, rice & beans from CGIAR centres
  • Technology advancement with farmer organisations and on-farm field trials
  • Seed multiplication of groundnut, upland & wetland rice varieties
    • evaluation of bean,  maize, Irish potato & groundnut varieties
  • Field trial evaluation of organic & inorganic fertilizers
  • Technology advancement to improve soil fertility
    • improved fallow and cover crop trials
    • fertilizer combination trials
  • Identification of National Market preferences and demand characteristics for crop varieties
  • Collection of market price, transport information and input/output market feasability studies
  • Radio and farmer to farmer technology advancement
