SADC Customs Programme

About us

The Customs Programme falls under Trade Industry Finance Investment Directorate and its overall objective is to support regional economic development through efficient trade facilitation systems and promotion of cooperation amongst Customs administrations and stakeholders. Article 11 of Annex II of the SADC Protocol on Trade makes provision of the appointment of the Sub Committee on Customs Cooperation (SCCC) whose functions include inter alia all activities relating to Customs cooperation.

Objectives

The specific objectives to be pursued shall be:

Harmonisation of Customs Tarrifs Nomenclature (CTN);
Harmonisation of Customs laws and procedures;
Harmonisation of valuation laws and practice;
Cooperation in ICT and information exchange;
Cooperation in the prevention and investigation of Customs offences; and
Capacity building and Customs mordenisation.
