Members of the Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will converge on Talatona Convention Centre in Luanda, Angola, for their meeting that will be taking place on August 15 and 16, 2011.

Established by Article 11 of the SADC Treaty, the Council of Ministers is charged with, among other things, approval of SADC policies, strategies and programmes as well as overseeing the implementation thereof and the general functioning and development of SADC.

The Council is also responsible for advising the Summit on matters of overall policy and efficient harmonious functioning and development of SADC as well as directing, coordinating and supervising the operations of the SADC institutions.

The Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Council are appointed by the Member States holding the Chairpersonship and Deputy Chairpersonship of SADC respectively and the Treaty provides that it meets at least four times a year.

From August 10 – 12, 2011, the Standing Committee of Senior Officials has cleared the Agenda that the Council of Ministers will be deliberating next week from Monday to Wednesday after which the Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government will meet here on August 17 and 18, 2011.
